Walking tours of Italy

Only a few stone houses surrounded by cypress trees, like in the pictures I had seen, dotted the landscape.
Still what surprised me the most were not the vineyards or the olive groves, not even the lightness and the variety of the Italian food; I expected them. What was really unexpected was the attitude of Italian people towards walking holydays.

Italians walk a lot, much more than we do. They walk in their everyday life to go shopping or to go to work ; especially in towns they walk to go to the moovies or just to go and visit their neightbours ; I have seen old ladies who climb steep stairs and go up narrow alleys apparently without any effort.
