An incredibly varied tour that links two very different parts of Tuscany: the Chianti area and the Mediterranean coast. Both produce famous wines: Chianti, one of the oldest wines of Tuscany and Sassicaia, possibly the most expensive wine in Italy, which the produce of the creative spirit of our peoples. Can be done as an escorted group or as a self guided tour.

  1. ARRIVAL IN POGGIBONSI Day 1 – Arrival and settling in

    Arrival in Poggibonsi, where you will be met by our representative who will drive you to your villa in in San Gimignano which is a Vernaccia producing agriturismo.

  2. SAN GIMIGNANO Day 2 – San Gimignano /Colle Vald’Elsa/San Gimignano – Km 45

    Departing from your villa, first you encounter Colle Val d’ Elsa and its glass blowing artisans, then the fortified town of Monteriggioni, its round distinctive shape dominating the surrounding plain; return to San Gimignano with its towers the visit of which will request a certain time and a couple of hours of window shopping . Aperitif with Vernaccia at a nearby agriturismo. Supper at your villa.

  3. VOLTERRA Day 3 – Volterra – Km 35

    Today we start our way towards the sea with a first stop in Volterra, a beautiful town often forgotten; the main production is alabaster which you will find in an unbelievable number of shapes in the many boutique of the town centre. Along the way we will stop for an oil tasting light/ lunch at a oil mill “Frantoio” . Supper and night in town

  4. WINE ROUTES – BOLGHERI Day 4 – Bolgheri – Km 49

    The landscape changes and become more rugged while we pass the hills that bar the road to the sea. Along the way we will stop at a wine producing farm for a tasting /lunch before starting our descent. The landscape changes again and we find new vineyards. Soon we catch the first glimpse of the Mediterranean Sea. Night and supper in a superb property

  5. CASTAGNETO CARDUCCI Day 5: La Bandita – Castagneto Carducci – Bolgheri – La Bandita – Km 28

    Altitude: 170 mt – Level: easy. It’s a very interesting route which allows you to discover the Bolgheri shire and its vineyards with its famous wines, possibly the most expensive Italian wines, Sassicaia. During your excursion discover Bolgheri medieval center and its castle where we have a wine tasting lunch that will surprise you. Their red wine is superb! Same accommodation

  6. THE OLD AURELIA ROAD Day 6 : La Bandita – Accattapane – Poggio Rosso – 25 Km

    Day of transfer by bike from your villa to a wine producing resort t through the Wine Routes of Val di Cornia . After passing San Vincenzo continue for few kilometres “the Vecchia Aurelia” to proceed to the
    Accattapane. Enjoy the typical Tuscan countryside among vineyards and centuries old olive trees.

  7. BARATTI AND POPULONIA Day 7: Poggio rosso – Baratti e Populonia – San Vincenzo – Km 39

    A route to discover the secrets of the Etruscans the mysterious inhabitants of this area before the Romans. It is an amazing road that links Populonia to the sea, with views over the Gulf of Baratti and the village itself. Beside the Etruscan archaeological site that you can visit, Populonia main road is lined with small, artisan’s shops selling typical products, restaurants and of course a cafès.

  8. YOURS DEPARTURE Possible transfer to Pisa airport.

What happens if I can’t walk / cycle a stage?

If you find the stage too long or if for any reason you cannot walk at all for one day, let us know the previous week and we can arrange for you to go for a short stretch or for the entire stage with the luggage transfer . In some cases a small fee will be asked and you can pay it directly to the driver.

When is the best time of year?

Generally speaking the best season is certainly from April to October; however, it varies with each stage:
– You can only cross the Alps(week 1) from June 15th to September 15th
– The Appennino mountains (week 4) are more pleasurable from mid May to the end of September
– We suggest that you avoid walking among the rice fields (week 2&3) in full summer

How does the baggage transfers work?

Every morning you leave your luggage at the reception of your accommodation, better with a name-tag and you will find it at your arrival at the next accommodation. It has to be delivered by 2pm

Do you provide GPS files for all days?

Yes, on request we can provide GPS files, but we will still supply the paper description just in case your GPS does not work!
