You are now in the very heart of “Chiantishire” cycling from one to the next small town. These little towns ( Greve / Panzano / Volpaia / Badia Coltibuono / Radda / Castellina) have a common history as they were all part of the Chianti League in the Middle Ages and are now associated in the Gallo Nero consortium which produces the “Chianti Classico” wine.

Distance 40 km

Day 4: Castellina in Chianti - San Gimignano

(Lilliano / Lecchi / Staggia / Colle Valdelsa / Bibbiano). A day that starts with a breathtaking descent, then take a small detour to visit Monteriggioni, the small village enclosed inside perfectly round walls; the day continues through windings roads that climb first to Colle di Val d’Elsa, then to San Gimignano, called the Manhattan of the Middle-ages, because of its many towers, the highest of which is 54m high.

(San Sano / Radda / Pieve / Panzano). Because this tour is a loop today we start on our way back to Florence, Chianti hills are tough, but by now you should have got used to them and the ups and downs of the road will seem light. In Panzano, pay a visit to the famous Cecchini butcher shop, if only to meet the character.
