From Orvieto to the Tyrrhenian Sea
You will begin in Orvieto, a medieval town built on top of sheer cliff faces. This ancient city offers some of the most spectacular panoramas in all of Italy, as well as incredible Gothic, Romanesque & Renaissance architecture. Yet perhaps most incredible is the city beneath the city, an underground metropolis dug deep into the volcanic rock from the 5th century B.C. The subterranean city has over 1200 tunnels, hundreds of galleries, massive cellars & even the remains of an ancient olive oil press. From Orvieto, you can hop from village to village over the hills & through forests, stopping along the way at Pitigliano, a historic town with a synagogue dating back to the 1500s. From there continue to the Saturnia hot springs, where you can relax in the warm waters beneath a shimmering waterfall. Your journey will end by the sea, where you can hike along the coast & sunbathe in the pristine beach coves.

Tour Plan

Day 1: Arrival in Orvieto

Orvieto is less than 1h30 from Rome . Reach the town by your own means – Visit this beautiful town, with its superb Duomo, its underground vaults and its medieval churches. Night in a centrally located 4 stars hotel. One of our representative will pick you up at your hotel and after a short briefing about the tour, will transfer you to Pitigliano one of the “Tufo” towns perched on a high cliff.

Day 2: Pitigliano and Sovana

On the way you will visit Civita di Bagnoregio, a ghost town, part of the Unesco world heritage. Pitigliano is a medieval town with Etruscan origins and it host the oldest Jewish getto in Italy. After a tour of town, start walking towards Sovana along one of the “vie cave” which are ceremonial routes literally carved in the soft tufo rock, man carved canyons – Night in Sovana

Day 3: Sovana surroundings

Sovana itself is a beautiful little town with 2 very old churches well worth visiting and a few artcraft boutiques. Within short walking distance there are two of the most impressive Etruscan burial sites with monumental tombs almost thee thousand years old. In the afternoon you can catch a bus to the near town of Sorano – Same hotel

Day 4: Sovana - Saturnia

A pleasant day among soft hills and oak woods to reach Saturnia, a thermal place among the most famous in Tuscany. Your « Agriturismo » (which means country Inn), where you are staying has its own hot water swimming pool. A dream after a tiring walking day!

Day 5: Saturnia loop

A relaxing day discovering the "Terme di Saturnia" which consist of a single thermal spring which flows at a constant temperature of 37.5 degrees

Day 6: Saturnia - Manciano

A peaceful landscape, unfolding through olive and chestnut trees and Mediterranean bushes and ending among vineyards. It is a fairly long day and one can stop in Montemerano for lunch . The agritourism where you spend the night is an organic farm and they will serve supper with their produce.(optional)

Day 7: Manciano Uccellina park

Transfer to your agriturismo in the heart of the Parco dell’Uccellina. Spend the day relaxing near the sea or hike on a loop inside the park among scented bushes and maritime pine trees, il view of the sea. Night at an agriturismo inside the park.
