Mediterranean delights – walking the Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi coast has attracted visitors for centuries, from medieval merchants to the great writers & artists of the 20th century. Virginia Woolf, D.H. Lawrence, Salvador Dalí & Greta Garbo (to name a few) have all been enchanted by the crystalline waters & ancient lemon groves of Amalfi.
Your journey will begin in Paestum, where you can explore exceptionally well-preserved Greek temples in the archeological park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From there you’ll walk along the breathtaking cliffsides as the sparkling waters alternate from a bright emerald to a deep sapphire. Up into the mountainous hills with centuries-old olive trees & citrus groves, you’ll visit all the small old fishing villages hidden deep in the valleys, far beyond the beaten path. Soon you’ll reach Ravello, known for its artisan ceramics & incredible lemon products, & Positano, known for its architecture going back to 100 A.C. Onwards you’ll find the town of Salento, the perfect stop for a gelato, & also where you can take the ferry to the luxurious island of Capri.
After you see how the rich & famous live today on the island of Capri, go see how the rich & famous lived in ancient Rome, in the once prosperous city of Pompei, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk down the ancient Roman streets with a knowledgeable guide explaining the history of this incredible site. On your last evening, celebrate your long journey with a glass of local wine overlooking Mount Vesuvius.
