Hi Giuliana,
Words escape me. Our trip in May 2018 was so excellent. Paul and Suzanne were amazed. Karen has many times said ‘I must write to Giuliana and thank her’, but it is impossible for her to describe our joy from the trip in a few words. Thus a longer version of thanks and appreciation to you, Nicolo, Beppe and Cristina is planned but remains unwritten.
So while Karen’s longer version of thanks with pictures is still to be written, we have already booked flights to Italy for 2019!
– Bob & Karen –

  1. PERUGIA Day 1 – Perugia – Arrival and settling in

Arrival at the Perugia train station: Metro ride ( Minimetro) directly to the centre of the town . A lively city, nice boutiques, good restaurants, an art gallery with a superb collection of Medieval paintings and a very special subterranean town.

San Francis used to travel on foot from Assisi to Gubbio, we will retrace his steps along these rugged hills.Transfer from Perugia to trail start. The beginning is a bit tough then it becomes easier. Rolling hills and thick woods and an amazing arrival with a breath taking view of Assisi.

A relaxing day. If you want to walk you can have a 3 hours loop Have a brisk departure by climbing to the Eremo delle Carceri, S. Francis peaceful retreat. At the top of the trail 500 meters from the Eremo there is a nice picnic spot with tables and benches. Otherwise just visit Assisi, which has a lot more to offer than the St Francis Basilica, although the Giotto’s frescos are superb.

What happens if I can’t walk / cycle a stage?

If you find the stage too long or if for any reason you cannot walk at all for one day, let us know the previous week and we can arrange for you to go for a short stretch or for the entire stage with the luggage transfer . In some cases a small fee will be asked and you can pay it directly to the driver.

When is the best time of year?

Generally speaking the best season is certainly from April to October; however, it varies with each stage:
– You can only cross the Alps(week 1) from June 15th to September 15th
– The Appennino mountains (week 4) are more pleasurable from mid May to the end of September
– We suggest that you avoid walking among the rice fields (week 2&3) in full summer

How does the baggage transfers work?

Every morning you leave your luggage at the reception of your accommodation, better with a name-tag and you will find it at your arrival at the next accommodation. It has to be delivered by 2pm

Do you provide GPS files for all days?

Yes, on request we can provide GPS files, but we will still supply the paper description just in case your GPS does not work!
